Our approach to the design of educational facilities is to first gain knowledge ourselves of the very specific requirements of the end users - be they primary school children or thought leaders at the cutting edge of scientific research.

With an extensive record across all levels of education, our practice has a reputation for designing high quality buildings that meet or exceed current industry assessment criteria. We have overseen the completion of more than 40 projects for 11 different University clients over the last decade, including organisations such as King’s College London, Jagiellonian University (Poland), University College Cork, Newcastle University, Durham University and University College London. We continue to develop innovative proposals for the provision of contemporary schooling - two of our recent secondary school projects, Monkseaton High School and Bexhill High School have been designed in close collaboration with teachers and educationalists to provide progressive learning environments within the context of a transformational curiculum.

We have been designing environmentally sustainable buildings for many years - the facility for the Institute for Research on Environment and Sustainability at Newcastle University was the first building of it’s type to receive and BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. We have achieved 60% carbon reductions at Bexhill High School and Monkseaton High School through low cost, passive strategies and use of new technologies.

An increasing proportion of Devereux Architects current workload in Education is refurbishing existing education facilities and developing Estates Strategies. Our work in this respect aims to maximise asset utilisation and support clients in delivering efficient and sustainable estates.
