Devereux Architects have produced the masterplan for an exclusive development on an island in Abu Dhabi which will focus on health and wellbeing in a self contained community that forms a small mixed use town.
The high level vision is to develop Zahra Island into a centre for healthcare especially for women and children, healthy living, fitness and beauty. The concept is to provide an exclusive island development maximising the benefits of an island to provide privacy, security, peace and calm.
The existing inhabited island will be reconfigured into a geometrical form based upon the shape of a desert flower with 5 petals. Each of the five petals is a zone within the development. These zones have been allocated different uses: healthcare with women’s and children’s hospitals and a day treatment centre, a health resort, a development of water side villas, a residential apartment development and a convention centre. The centre of the island will have an 18 hole golf course with a retail ‘village’ in the centre. Where the access bridge connects to the island there will be a business district and a 50 storey 4 star hotel.
