Devereux Architects have been commissioned to undertake the design of the first purpose built hotel constructed in Worthing for more than a century. The redevelopment for Roffey Homes will help lead the rejuvenation of the historic seafront.
The site is located in a Conservation Area and requires the demolition of the existing buildings, necessitating extensive community consultation and negotiation with the Local Authority. Feedback from these consultations helped to shape the initial planning designs.
The design for the development consists of three key elements: a central glass tower, a hotel to the west and apartments to the east. The concept has nautical theme, influenced by its seafront location and features a landmark wave shaped roof as well as a vertical glass bay, which will be particularly prominent at night when illuminated.
The proposed hotel will contain 76 guest rooms and suites along with a spa, swimming pool, sauna and gym. The design also incorporates a winter garden, which will link up with some of the internal public function spaces.
The residential apartments are located to the east of the hotel. They are made up of 22 two bedroom and 26 three bedroom units with an additional four bedroom duplex penthouse. All apartments will be furnished to a high standard throughout and will each include a private balcony or terrace.
The scheme has recently been granted planning consent and work is ongoing.
