This new residential development is located close to East Croydon rail station. Devereux Architects developed the design from concept to planning stages to include a 26 storey residential tower building, creating a new landscape for this area of Croydon and providing 236 apartments in a high density development.
The tall building is elliptical in plan form and steps in on its top floors. The lower rise sections, from four to nine storeys recreating the street frontage and wrapping round one corner of the site. The development contains a mix of 170 private and 66 affordable units, including 94 underground car parking spaces and 196 cycle spaces.
The scheme was built on a brownfield site and produces approximately 15% of renewable energy, primarily through using a biomass boiler. The building was designed to meet the Ecohomes ‘good’ standard.
Following discussions with CABE, Devereux Architects successfully negotiated the scheme through planning, which was granted in February 2007.
