Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Centre, King's College London

Devereux Architects has designed a new centre of excellence for clinical neuroscience research at King’s College London.

This landmark project on the Denmark Hill campus will provide laboratories with 152 workbenches, as well as 252 write up spaces for researchers.

The design has evolved through a focused period of consultation with King’s College London and Allies & Morrison. The resulting scheme focuses on issues of university campus identity, entrances, principal circulation routes and relationships with surrounding facilities. The design of the building has also been affected by a number of Town Planning issues due to the buildings’ close proximity to residential streets and restricted urban context.

The new building incorporates ground source heating, natural ventilation and active chilled beams in write-up areas. On completion the new building will achieve a BREEAM Excellent (Bespoke) rating.

Reinforcing Devereux Architects’ continuing relationship with King’s College London, this commission compliments other research facilities that the practice has designed at the college campus at Denmark Hill.
