Newland House School

Devereux Architects were employed early in 2009 to produce concept designs for this co-educational prep school for pupils from 4-13 years old. The school had recently tried unsuccessfully to obtain planning consent for a new pre-prep school on the site of a recently-acquired neighbouring house. Our brief was to examine the site and prepare a suitable scheme to address the concerns of the Local Planning Authority and the adjoining owners.

The resulting proposal successfully reconciles the difference in massing of the adjoining buildings and uses a palette of local materials in a timeless fashion. Classrooms are grouped in clusters of three, spread over three floors, but each with outside play space. A large multi-purpose hall at ground floor provides space for assembly and dining.
