Kid’s 1st Day Nursery

The Kids 1st day nursery, located at Hexham, Northumberland can accommodate up to 110 youngsters and offers a stimulating, fun environment that allows children to learn and play in a safe and modern space.

The contemporary, timber framed building is clad in western red cedar and off-white render. Large expanses of glazing offer stunning panoramic views of the Tyne Valley as well as giving the south facing building a light and airy feel. The ground floor houses activity spaces as well as sleep and sensory rooms and changing facilities. Upstairs there are pre and after school care facilities, a large multi-purpose room, soft play area, parent’s room, staff room, kitchen and laundry.

Externally to the south of the building is a fully landscaped garden incorporating many challenging features for children, encouraging them to develop their sensory skills and allowing them to ‘learn by doing’ in a safe and well designed environment.

Sustainability was another element of the design. Careful consideration was given to the use of energy within the building, which is highly insulated. The timber frame, wooden cladding and recyclable materials used to build the nursery complete the modern, environmentally friendly structure.
