Davies Building, Roehampton University

As a pilot project for the redevelopment of the campus at Roehampton, Devereux Architects were commissioned to provide a new PE and Dance Facility for the University.

The built scheme comprises two purpose built dance studios, a PE and movement hall, changing rooms, storage areas, teaching space and a reception area with offices. Externally, there is a new floodlit multi-use games area with direct access from the PE hall and teaching space.

Sustainable design principles are embodied throughout the project; natural light filling the main activity areas, generous roof overhangs and brise soleil preventing glare and overheating and semi-opaque full height glazing providing privacy. The dance studios incorporate the latest specialist flooring technology and the whole building is under-floor heated whilst the main spaces are naturally ventilated ensuring a highly efficient, low-energy and low-maintenance building.
